I remember being amazed at how honest he was, how he found solace in music, how he wanted to cry after watching a movie or reading a good book. I remember browsing through his tumblr posts, listening to songs, reading small notes and wondering who they were about. I remembering envying her, whoever she was. I remember finding out that she was me. I remember finding someone I could no longer live without. I remember falling in love.

Mix 4 parts powdered sugar with 1 part baking soda.

Make a mound with the sand. Push a depression into the middle of the sand.

Pour the alcohol or other fuel into the sand to wet it.

Pour the sugar and baking soda mixture into the depression.

Ignite the mound, using a lighter or match.

Our weaknesses increase our capacity for sympathy and ministry. We are far more likely to be compassionate and considerate of the weaknesses of others. God wants you to have a Christlike ministry on earth. That means other people are going to find healing in your wounds. Your greatest life messages and your most effective ministry will come out of your deepest hurts. The things your most embarrassed about, most ashamed of, and most reluctant to share are the very tools God can use most powerfully to heal others.

The great missionary Hudson Taylor said, “All God’s giants were weak people.” Moses’ weakness was his temper. It caused him to murder an Eqyptian, strike the rock he was supposed to speak to, and break the tablets of the Ten Commandments. Yet God transformed Moses into “the humblest man on earth.”

Gideon’s weakness was low self esteem and deep insecurities, but God transformed him into a “mighty man of valor.” Abraham’s weakness was fear. Not once, but twice, he claimed his wife was his sister to protect him. But God transformed Abraham into the “father of those who have faith.” Impulsive, weak willed Peter, became “a rock,” the adulterer David became “a man after my own heart”, and John, one of the arrogant “Sons of Thunder,” became the “Apostle of Love.”

During the sinking, Titanic’s officers pleaded with the 63 year old Ida to board a lifeboat and escape the disaster, but she repeatedly refused to leave her husband. Instead, she placed her maid in a lifeboat, taking her fur coat off and handing it to the maid while saying, “I won’t need this anymore”. At one point, she was convinced to enter one of the last two lifeboats, but jumped out as her husband walked away to rejoin him.

When last seen by witnesses, they were standing on deck, holding each other in a tight embrace. Their funeral drew some 6,000 mourners at Carnegie Hall.

A monument to them still stands in a Bronx cemetery, it’s inscription reads: “Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it.”

Take a second and think about the one thing that promotes attraction the most. I’ll give you a hint. The answer is not physical looks, wealth, having things in common, or even the person’s personality. I know, it’s crazy right? The answer is actually proximity. Study after study finds that most people tend to become attracted to people who are physically close to them. The theory is called the mere exposure effect, and it states that we tend to become attracted to a novel stimuli if it was repeated over and over again. I am sure you once saw a very attractive person who caught your attention while passing by your car, then you never saw him/her again. Why do most people forget about that very attractive person a few days later? Simply because they never see that person again. If the stimuli wasn’t reinforced we tend to forget about it even if we liked it. It really is true. Just talking to someone a lot can do so much. You may not even see it coming. But If you spend a considerable amount of time with someone, you could be friends one day, and before you know it, you’ve completely fallen head over heals in love with each other. Maybe this has happened to you. You can’t fight it, but why would you want to? It’s a beautiful thing, really.
